Richard W. Sandza 

Richard brings to his legal practice decades of experience in business and entrepreneurship which provide him with a deep understanding of the issues that clients face, whether they be commercial clients with transactions, regulatory problems or contract disputes or individuals or family members seeking a.


Before becoming an attorney, Richard founded a media company which purchased an 80 year old weekly newspaper in Baltimore, later adding two more titles through acquisition and developing two others as startups. Before selling the enterprise, he was responsible for managing all aspects of the business, financial and editorial operations. He also was a founder and board member of Verve Mobile, one of the nation’s leading mobile publishing apps. Verve provides back end publication and advertising for the Associated Press and hundreds more media companies.

Richard purchased an EPA designated Superfund site and obtained one of the first ever Department of Justice/EPA covenants not to sue, as well as the equivalent from the Maryland Department of the Environment. He then developed this Brownfields property into a golf driving range and cell tower, which he later sold.

Richard has renovated and invested in real estate in Washington, Baltimore, Delaware and California.   As president of a Baltimore business association, he led the group to securing public funding for several key redevelopment projects, including a regional public library and arts center and retail space. These experiences have informed his ability to assess real estate opportunities, interpret the regulatory development maze and assess performance issues.

Richard was also an award winning journalist for several years and covered the US Department of Justice, The Pentagon, The CIA, The FAA and the FBI for Newsweek Magazine.  His work has appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, The Army  Times, NPR and other national outlets. He has appeared on CNN, NBC News and other broadcast outlets. He has written extensively about technology, aviation, the courts and trends in the law. He is a licensed helicopter pilot, having served as an aviator in the U.S. Army.
